Patents are one of the main types of documents framed within the category of sources of gray literature. Its significance in the study of science and technology sources is crucial, since your application environment connects with more purely experimental sciences and manufacturing or industrialization of technological advances in the theoretical sciences. Patents are subject to bibliometric studies for the determination of industrial production, the state of technology and research in a country, considered an indicator of interest.

Patent Classification & Search
Every patent contains a classification whose coverage is national or international application. This is the case of U.S. patent classification ( http://www.uspto.gov/go/classification/glossary/index.htm ) of the United States Patent and Trademark Office ( http: / / www.uspto.gov/ ) and the International Patent Classification IPC (International Patents Classifcation http://www.wipo.int/classifications/ipc/es/ ) of the World Intellectual Property ( http://www.wipo.int/portal/index.html.es )

  3. From the terms of the classifications that have been obtained, a patent search done in the following databases:

    • Google Patents: Patents Google search that from the patent databases accessible outdoors, is a database accessible by the usual recovery options in the Google engine. Available at: http://www.google.com/patents

Lab 3: Analysis and structure of a journal article

As explained in class, the journal is one of the media most important scientific knowledge. It is therefore essential that they control and knowledge, based on its structure, methods and models assessment, referral systems, recovery, etc.. We propose the following exercise in which you will need to select a journal and an article of the same for analysis taking into account the aspects learned in the course.

Select Journal - Analysis:
  • Title of the magazine.
  • magazine's Web address.
  • ISSN of the journal.
  • bibliographic reference for this review copy. Model (Harvard citation.)
  • references in the article for the issue of the magazine. Model (Harvard citation.)
  • Thematic area of \u200b\u200bthe magazine chosen.
  • Is this in the ISI citation index? It points to its URL in the ISI.
  • What is your impact factor? Year rate of impact and no published articles.
  • committee "consists of editing? - Includes those responsible for the editing committee.
  • "consists of peer review? - Includes references to this method of assessment in the magazine.
